Helsingoer Hospital / Elsinore Hospital
Helsingoer/Elsinore Hospital is a local hospital situated in Helsingoer/Elsinore north of Copenhagen, where Hamlets castle “Kronborg” is guarding the entrance to the Baltic Sea. The present hospital was built in the 70’es at the outskirts of the town
Elsinore Hospital is part of the merged hospital organisation in the new Region of the Capital City. Together with Hilleroed and Frederikssund Hospitals, Elsinore Hospital serves the northern part of the region with Hilleroed Hospital as the centrally placed main acute hospital, and Elsinore and Frederikssund Hospitals serving the local communities in west and east.
At the moment Elsinore Hospital is an acute hospital with 180 beds, acute surgery, orthopaedics and internal medicine. But according to the new Hospital Plan for the region the hospital will be transformed into a local hospital with approx. 145 beds serving the local communities (approx. 125.000 inhb.) with internal medicine, simple emergency services and outpatient facilities for radiology, laboratory-services and gynaecology. Also the new hospital will be serving the whole northern part of the region (approx. 310.000 inhb.) with elective orthopaedic surgery and rheumatology.
Elsinore hospital is a self containing organisation with its own management. But many of the departments and functions are decentralised functions organisationally connected to the main departments at the nearby acute hospital in Hilleroed.
We have a budget of approx.14 Mio. £ and approximately 500 people are working at the hospital including the decentralised functions.
Our main goal is to develop Elsinore Hospital into a local hospital, which will be the natural first choice of patients in our catchment-area - especially regarding chronic diseases as diabetes, COPD, arthritis and cardiac diseases.
We focus on cooperation with the local communities for the benefit of the patient and their relatives. Developing new and better coping strategies together with the local authorities and GP’s is crucial for the health care in the future.
